Another beautiful day in the French Alps, and another fantastic hike. Today we started just above Abondance in the Abondance Valley, Haute Savoie. Driving along a narrow tarmac road, big enough for just one, which then went into a track as we headed to Le Sauvage and the start of todays walk. Just one little stop en route whilst we waited for a French workman to remove the stones from the track enabling us to pass……
Todays hike started at Le Sauvage, with an 800 metre climb to Pointe d’Autigny and then a lovely wander through meadows and forests to the Refuge d’Ubine. So a 3 hour 25 minute hike for 13.1km and a climb of 875 metres.
Arriving at the Pointe d’Autigny and the 3 crosses, the views were just stunning, I could see the Dent D’Oche, Mont de Grange and Les Cornette de Bise, plus Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva just amazing.
On the walk back down passing by a hamlet and a spot of lunch.
The walk through the forest to the Refuge d’Ubine
The church at the Refuge d’Ubine and of course the cows, and the stunning view from this point. The refuge itself is warm and welcoming offering its weary hikers, lunches and plenty of cold drinks.
Now home to relax those weary feet…….
